T3T | Books That Have Been on My TBR the Longest

Today I’m doing a newly discovered weekly meme created by A Cosy Reading Blog called Top 3 Thursday. This is probably the best meme I’ve found because I don’t always have enough of a topic to fill out Top Tens and this provides a perfect, short post idea for Thursdays when I’m still reading the book I thought I’d have a chance of finishing in time for a review. My current read is Circe by Madeline Miller and I’m thoroughly enjoying it but I don’t know what I was thinking planning a review for today. This week’s topic is Books That Have Been on My TBR the Longest! I don’t make actual TBRs—I’m too much of a mood reader—so whenever I talk about mine, I mean the general wishlist of books I want or unread books that I own. I’ve only recently started keeping close track of all the books I want so these three are just ones I know I’ve wanted for a while, I don’t actually know what’s been on there longest.

One book that has been on my TBR for years is A Game of Thrones. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I put it in a blog post saying that I was excited to read it this year. Well, it’s November 15th and I still haven’t read it and have no plans to. I got super slowed down by the ebooks I read for review requests and I’m trying to get my book count back up there so I at least have a shot of reaching it (or at least getting respectably close so as to not embarrass myself). GoT isn’t making the cut for this year, unfortunately.

Outlander has been on my TBR for as long as GoT, I think. I don’t even own the first book in the series yet but I’m so eager to read it.

I had to include at least one classic on this list. I first became interested in classic novels probably nine years ago and I’ve crossed a decent amount off my TBR but I still haven’t gotten around to buying The Scarlet Letter. I don’t know what’s wrong with me because I really want to read it. The whole premise makes me think it could become one of my favorite classics. I had my eye on the Barnes and Noble leather bound edition but I’ve waited so long that I don’t think they even sell it anymore. I’m awful.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? They’ve been on my TBR for so long, I really need to make an effort to buy/read these within the next year. I’m not sure which one I’m the most excited about. In a way, I think it’s The Scarlet Letter because I’ve wanted it the longest and I’ve hyped it up in my head a lot. I’m looking forward to them all.

Thanks for reading,

Madison

  1. This is an interesting topic. Even if you’ve put off reading a book, it doesn’t mean it’s not a great book, and it doesn’t mean you REALLY still want to read it. It’s that old adage: so many books, so little time!
