The Fictional Family Book Tag

Today I’m doing the Fictional Family Book Tag! I saw it on Hammock of Books and it looked like fun so I had to try it. The rules say to pick eight random books and put them in a random order. I probably would’ve chosen mostly my favorites, even though you’re not supposed to, so I had my mom choose and arrange them so I had no control.

The Rules:

  • Pick 8 books off your shelves (try to not pick just your favorites!)
  • Arrange them into a random order (randomizers are good for this).
  • In the order they are arranged, open them to a random page and write down the first name you see. Don’t mix up the names!
  • In the last book, find the name of an animal/pet and write it down.
  • Put the names in the right category.
  • Tag people (spread the love), copy and paste the rules in your post or write them out yourself.

Parent one: Lena from Requiem by Lauren Oliver

It’s been a long time since I read the Delirium trilogy and I don’t remember Lena that well, so I don’t know how to feel about this. I think she’s the main character so she’s probably pretty good, right? I was probably rooting for her so maybe she’d be alright.

Parent two: Argus Filch from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

Are you kidding me? He’s not as bad as Umbridge but he’s close. I was hoping Sirius or Lupin would be the first name I saw. Filch is a nightmare as caretaker, I can’t even imagine him as a parent. Maybe Lena can put him in his place, though.

Sibling one: Valek from Fire Study by Maria Snyder

Isn’t he a typical tough guy character? A bit broody and dramatic about not getting close to people? Annoying, but I wouldn’t mind having a tough older brother.

Sibling two: Nikolai from Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

I am so happy with this!! I’d love to have him as my brother—he’s funny, smart and cunning. He’d be so much fun to hang out with. We could do dangerous, fun things together then Valek could scold us and clean up our messes. Perfect.

Cousin: Juliet from The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

This is good, I’m okay with this. Juliet is sweet and funny. I can picture us going for tea on the weekends, catching up and being classy ladies. Plus, we’re both writers! We’d have plenty to talk about and could give each other ideas.

Boyfriend/Girlfriend: Franz from The Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck

I was hoping my mom would grab a YA fantasy book for this so I’d have a decent chance of getting someone okay….but no. I got Franz from The Women in the Castle, who I think was a Nazi and, though he was kind to Benita and felt remorse, did really terrible things as one. This is an awful boyfriend. I’d rather have Tamlin the Tool from ACOTAR.

Best Friend: Artemis Fowl from The Opal Deception by Eoin Colfer

Whoa. It’s been even longer since I read these books but I loved them. Artemis was fun, smart, and involved with faeries and magic…of course I want to be best friends with him.

Pet: Fleetfoot from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Yes! This is my favorite answer so far!! I love animals and I love Fleetfoot, I’m so happy I got her. I would run through a portal to a terrifying world to save her, too. I figured I’d open the book to a page with a random horse on it so I’m thrilled I got a cute puppy.

My fictional family seems like it’d be pretty dysfunctional, so I think I’m happier with my real one. The only ones I’d really want are Fleetfoot and Nikolai (because I don’t have a brother and he would be the best). I tag anyone who wants to do this and recommend having someone else pick the books and arrange the order for you if you can!

Thanks for reading!
